Location

The chateau is located in the Allier which is the northern part of the Auvergne in the centre of France.

Getting there

It is approximately 3 ½ hours by motorway or train from Paris and the nearest station is in Montlucon 25 minutes away. If you are travelling from the channel ports it will take you approximately 7 hours to drive from Calais or Zeebrugge.

The nearest airport is at Clermont Ferrand 40 minutes away. However this airport has no direct flights from the UK , you have to change in Paris.
The airport we use is Limoges which has frequent flights from all corners of the UK via Ryanair and is an easy 1hour 45 minute drive across country.

Directions to Ludaix from Limoges Airport

Leave the airport and remember to drive on the right! Go straight on the roundabout and then turn left almost immediately signed 'Poitiers' A2 Almost at once you get to a T junction and turn right (no signs) Continue along this road for 13km until you come to a roundabout signed A20 Poitiers/Montlucon. This is a motorway so the speed limit is 130k when fine and 110km when raining.
Go on for 36km until you reach junction 23A signed Gueret/Montlucon E62. This is not a motorway so the limit is 110km maximum.
Go 77km then come off at junction signed Boussac/Gouzon. Drive up to a roundabout and follow signs for Montlucon/Chambon S Voueize. Drive 14km to Chambon and just keep on the road through the town. You will see signs for Evaux Les Bains 4km.
Drive through Evaux until a sharp left turn to Pionsat and Marcillat. Follow this road through the town and out towards Marcillat going through Chambonchard village. From here Marcillat is 7km.
As you enter Marcillat there is a roundabout, take the first right 'Rue du Ludaix'. You will see the chateau. Yippee!!

From Paris and the North

WARNING TO SAT NAV USERS:
1. Ensure you enter Marcillat en Combraille 03420 - double check as there is another Marcillat 40km south.
2. Sat nav classic route should be ignored: it will usually advocate leaving the A71 at junction 9 and then take you a very long route round the west side of Montlucon and through the small lanes and ravine of Rochbut. Better option is exit 10 and go via Commentry or better still but a little longer, exit 11, see below.

Come down the A71 and exit at junction 11 (this is a slightly longer but easier route). Exit the toll booth and go right at the roundabout, then in half a mile at the mini roundabout go left, third exit. Traffic lights, go left, D4 Lapeyrouse; roundabout straight on D4/ D13 to t-junction with N144 at Montaigut. Go right and immediately left onto the D502 to Marcillat en Combraille. Roundabout at entrance to to Marcillat, take the second exit (straight on), through the town to small roundabout, take a left (third exit), 50 metres cross roads at the garage, go straight ahead. You have arrived.

Travel time is 40 minutes once you leave the motorway.
